Zach Lutz, a Berks native, is enjoying a solid season as a member of the Binghamton Mets. The B-Mets’ 3B is currently hitting .286 with 16 home runs and 39 RBIs through August 27.
Originally selected by the N.Y. Mets
in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, Lutz, 24, was named Eastern
League Player of the Week for the week ending August 1. The 6’1″, 220
pound-slugger was a high school standout at Governor Mifflin High and
also excelled while playing for Shillington American Legion teams.
Lutz returned to FirstEnergy Stadium for the first time since 2004, when he took the field on Thursday evening in game one of the R-Phils/B-Mets series. In 2004 he played for Governor Mifflin High School in the Berks High School Championship game.
I had a chance to sit down with Zach for my “Philling You In Phriday’s” program, which airs every Friday on ESPN Radio 1240 AM WIOV. We talked about his high school days, his time at Alvernia College, playing for the Brooklyn Cyclones, and more.
